In light of a a post about fic deletion on dramione, I felt I should remind/notify people here that when an author/artist asks the mods to remove fic/art they created, we remove it.

I'm not saying save all the gift posts immediately!, but, you know, use the information as you will.

Membership Post - How to Join as a Member

This is a new membership post. Our old post has gone over 5000 comments, forcing us to enter a captcha every time we comment on it with links.

If you have already been granted membership on the old post, you do not need to request it again. You remain a member.

We members-lock R and NC-17 entries. We will add you as a member if:

1. You are at least 18 years of age.

2. You state such information on your profile/userinfo. You can use an age statement (example: "I am 18 years of age" or "I am over 18 years of age") or you can leave your birth year information. If displaying the latter by way of the birthday field and are concerned about your privacy, you can set it to display to registered users only.

3. You leave a comment on this entry stating that you are 18 years of age or that you are over 18 years of age (which ever is applicable) and that you would like to join the community.

NOTES

dmhgficexchange Retires

Hello all,

It still doesn't feel real, but it's time for dmhgficexchange to go as gracefully into the night as we can manage. We made the decision to retire last year from having exchanges for a number of reasons that really boil down to not having the time needed to commit. Anyone running a community like dmhgficexchange knows this is no part-time gig. My life was different when I first became a mod here years ago, but things change. Life goes on. HP7 has been released both in book and film format. We have jobs and mortgages and kids to raise; educations and internships to complete; parents to care for; more responsibility than we can properly deal with. Rather than think sadly of this being the end, I'd like to reflect on what an awesome run we've had. What is it, 10 rounds? I never would have imagined. maplesugrrrl, itsbeenvery, reetinkerbell and I have loved doing this. YOU have made it terribly fulfilling for us, and terribly humbling too. For all the hard work we put in, we genuinely got it back in spades. Sometimes we should've just got out of the way and sometimes we got our asses kicked, but all in all, it was worth it. Your art, your talent, your hard work inspires.

If I had to share my one regret... Well, there are lots, but the one I always come back to is probably how many funny, clever or sweet little messages we received over the years that were left unanswered. There have been too many to count but I wish we could've let each of you know how often you made us laugh like idiots or feel better on a bad day. No, those words you wrote didn't disappear into the anonymous and mysterious ether of the internets. We read them even if we didn't have time to respond.

I will edit this post in the coming weeks to create an FAQ based on your questions. Please ask away in the comments.

No, we are not closed. dmhgficexchange will remain an active community. We will continue to maintain the archive of gifts as well as community memberships. The only activity we have retired from is the big one: hosting Draco/Hermione gift exchanges. We feel confident you will not lack for such fests given the options currently available.

I am here to announce the winner of our last ever Reviewer Award. In the end, many of you voted and for a lot of different people (something I for one love). I won't post a list of the stats, because we don't, but I felt it worth mentioning. Even though to some having a large list of people with only one or two votes might not say much, to us it signifies the variety of reviews and the variety of opinions on what makes a good review. We see it as a good sign.

Reviewer Award Update

I would like to start off this post by thanking those of you who've already voted - we are thankful that you've taken the time to pick out your top three reviews and shared them with us. Unfortunately, the turnout could've been much better, and because of that, the mods have decided to extend the deadline, in the hope that it will bring in more votes.

The Reviewer Award is something we as mods discussed weather we should bring back or not, and when we ultimately decided to do so, it was because we think it's a fun and festive way to not just end the round (especially as we do not have Story/Art Awards) but a great way to thank those who've participated by reading, viewing and reviewing. A creator is rewarded by the reviews they are given, and we created the Reviewer Award as a way of thanking those who've taken the time to review and share their opinions. As many of the readers/viewers are also creators for the exchange (or beta readers for writers of the exchange), this becomes even more important because it's a way of give and give back.

If you, when reading this, feel that I might be pushing it just a bit, that could be because I probably am. But, we really do wish more of you voted, if only to make all of you think about what the reviews mean to you, and perhaps even change your view of them. A good review does not have to be gushy and in agreement with everything you've created - in fact, a great review might be one that points out your mistakes, if there are any, or makes you think about other ways you might've taken your story or interprets your art in a way you had not imagined. When you consider all of the reviews you have been given, you may surprise yourself by realising that the reviews that most often makes you the happiest (i.e. the gushy kind) might not rate as high as a well thought-out review that, upon first reading it, you might've felt was a bit critical.

The fact that it's a fun way to thank people who takes the time to read and view the work created is, of course, also important.

Artists and Authors have until Midnight, Sunday to nominate their top three reviewers, in our effort to thank them for their participation and their help in making this exchange what it is -- an enjoyable fandom fest for all (well, all Draco/Hermione shippers at any rate!). A few of you have already put your votes in, but with over a 100 participants, the number of people who have voted does not as of yet come even close to the halfway mark of the number of participants. So we certainly would love to see more of you voting.

You can find the post HERE.

In addition, all author and artists names should now be added to their respective posts. So please have a look at your work and if something is wrong (or you would like to add a different name or change it entirely. We've used the names listed on the Master List) please say so to this post here, and it will be changed as soon as possible. I recommend visiting the gift you created, if only to save the link or the post to your memories, and to read the reviews (so that you can vote, of course!). If you were a pinch-hitter, but the red text at the top of your story stating you were one is missing, please let me know here and it will be fixed as well.

This is the official post for artist and writers to nominate their top three reviewers. The criteria you use to determine which three reviews you choose to nominate is up to each and every individual -- it can be a review that made you laugh, that made up smile, that made you think, that pointed out mistakes in your story that will benefit you in the future or that gushed and made you all fuzzy inside. It is entirely up to you.

- The nomination starts now, and runs until midnight Sunday, June the ~~5th~~ 12th. [EXTENDED DEADLINE]

- You may nominate three reviewers, in order 1-3; 1 being the best, that have reviewed the gift you created.

- The Monday following, we will compile the nominations, and give out points based upon their 1-3 ranking. A post listing the winners will follow, although not necessarily the very same day.

- You do not have to include a reason for why you choose the reviews you did, but feel more than free to do so if you wish.

- Don't forget to include the name of your gift and your listed author's name, especially if different from your LJ name. This is mainly for our sake, to help us keep track when we count the votes. (Thank you!)

Darkest Before the Dawn: Master List

We are finally here! The big reveal, who drew, mixed, and wrote what, who participated, and who pinch-hit.

There is no question that without those that signed on to create a gift when the original participant no longer could, many of you would not have received a gift. We are eternally grateful to our pinch-hitters. We had PHs join shortly after the round started, mid-way, and during the final weeks. Some are regular participants that created another or multiple other gifts in addition to their original assignment, while others joined without already being attached to the round. Please join us in thanking them for their their generosity, their time, and their creativity. The pinch-hitters for this round are:

Re Gifts:

- I'm a bit reluctant to say how many gifts we have left as I feel the moment we've posted the last one we will suddenly discover 3 behind the email radiator. However, I believe we have 12-ish gifts left to post. Please keep in mind I have JKR-level math skills.

- 7 look to be for individual users, 5 for pinch hitters. At this stage, if you haven't received your gift yet, it is completely okay to email and ask us about it if you are concerned. Obviously we won't tell you who created your gift, but we can let you know the status of your gift.

Author/Artist Note(s): Well, I wallowed on this for-ev-er. I originally intended to write for it but when nothing came from my keyboard, I resorted to pencil. I sifted through hundreds of stock references, trying to get just the right idea... and in the end, I simply went back to your 'Dramione Anthem' and it led me in a direction I could follow! While I am not the best artisit, I did put effort into this piece and I hope you at the very least smile when yous ee it! :) It was created with just you're chosen song in mind, and of course with you in mind! <3
There are actually two versions of this piece! I am not overly confident in my own coloring skills so a friend of mine did a digitally colored copy of my work. Both the original, done totally by myself and the digitally colored copy are included for your viewing pleasure, Gravidy! :) We both hope you enjoy them! <3
